A source-reviewed guide to the TDI's rack role, Ethernet and USB interfaces, data collection functions and part-number verification.
The 3500/22M Transient Data Interface (TDI) connects the Bently Nevada 3500 monitoring system with compatible System 1 condition-monitoring software and 3500 System Configuration software. Baker Hughes describes the TDI as combining the rack-interface function of the earlier 3500/20 RIM with communication-processor data collection.
In a standard 3500 rack, the TDI occupies Slot 1 next to the power supplies. It works with M-series monitors to collect steady-state values and transient waveform data, then transfers information to host software over Ethernet. The TDI is important for configuration and condition-monitoring data access, but the manufacturer states that it is not part of the rack's critical machinery-protection path.
A correct replacement decision depends on the complete installed configuration, not the front label alone. Record these details before requesting availability or planning a shutdown:
01 · IDENTIFY
Capture every labelRecord the full TDI and rear I/O part numbers, rack serial data and installed firmware. |
02 · COMPARE
Check interfacesConfirm copper or fiber Ethernet, relay-contact type, approval and software compatibility. |
03 · PLAN
Protect the configurationBack up rack settings and follow approved site procedures before removing hardware. |
RIM-to-TDI upgrades require the correct sequence. The manufacturer warns that leaving the RIM I/O module installed can damage the TDI. Remove the RIM, remove the RIM I/O, insert the correct TDI I/O module and then insert the TDI. Compatibility of existing M-series monitors must also be checked.
It interfaces the 3500 rack with compatible software while collecting steady-state and transient data from supported monitors.
It occupies Slot 1, immediately next to the rack power supplies.
No. The official datasheet states that it does not affect normal automatic machinery-protection operation.
Static capture is standard; optional channel-enabling licensing supports dynamic and high-resolution transient data.
Do not assume so. Verify the installed module, rear I/O, firmware, approvals and network interface.
The datasheet documents 10/100 copper Ethernet and 100Base-FX multimode fiber options.
Send complete front and rear part numbers, quantity, condition, rack and firmware details, destination and label photos.
