The FCP280 simplifies the Foxboro Evo ProcessAutomation System architecture, maintaining controlwhile only requiring housing (via field enclosures),host workstations with Foxboro Evo Control CoreServices v9.0 or later, and Ethernet switches forcommunication via The Mesh control networkarchitecture, described in PSS 21H-7C2 B3.The field-mounted FCP280 is an integral part of thehighly-distributed control network where controllersare closely aligned to specific process units mountedin close proximity to their I/O and the actualequipment being controlled. Coordination betweenprocess units takes place via a fiber optic 100 MbpsEthernet network.

The FCP280 and its network adapters are packagedin a rugged, die cast aluminum housing that does notrequire venting due to its efficient design. TheFCP280 and its network adapters are CE certified,and it can be mounted without expensive specialcabinets to prevent electronic emissions. TheFCP280, network adapters, and baseplate can bemounted in Class G3 harsh environments.

ENHANCED RELIABILITY (FAULTTOLERANCE)The unique and patented fault-tolerant operation ofthe FCP280 improves reliability relative to legacyprocess controllers. The fault-tolerant version of theFCP280 consists of two modules operating inparallel, with two Ethernet connections to The Meshcontrol network. The two FCP280 modules, marriedtogether as a fault-tolerant pair, provide continuousoperation of the controller in the event of virtually anyhardware failure occurring within one module of thepair.
