The FCP280 performs regulatory, logic, timing, and sequential control in conjunction with connected Fieldbus Modules (FBMs). It supports up to 128 Compact or standard 200 Series FBMs or a combination of up to 128 100 Series and 200 Series FBMs (with no more than 64 100 Series FBMs). No Fieldbus Communication Module or Expansion Module is required for these configurations, ensuring streamlined integration. Additionally, it supports self-hosting mode, enabling the FCP280 to boot independently with a valid control database, even without its host workstation.

The system offers enhanced reliability with its patented fault-tolerant operation, using two control modules to improve operational uptime compared to other controllers. It also provides on-line image upgrades (OLUG), allowing for the upgrade of the fault-tolerant FCP280 without process downtime, ensuring continuous operation during maintenance. The FCP280 excels in monitoring and alarm detection, offering real-time updates and status reports.

The FCP280 connects to The Mesh control network using standard fiber optic or copper 100 Mbps Ethernet cables, facilitating robust communication within the network. Its Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) provides a clear interface to display real-time roles, statuses, and letterbugs, making it easier to manage and monitor control processes efficiently.
