Q : Can the DO3401 drive alternating current (AC) loads directly?

No. The DO3401 is strictly specified for 24 VDC operations. Trying to hook up a 120/230 VAC load will cause instantaneous destruction of the module's output transistors. 

Q : What is the purpose of the mechanical keying slots on the back of the card?

They physically prevent technicians from inserting the DO3401 into slots reserved for high-voltage or analog cards, avoiding cross-voltage damage 

Q : How can I check if a running DO3401 module is overheating?

Monitor the module properties via the TriStation Diagnostic Monitor; if internal temperatures consistently exceed 60°C, inspect the cabinet fans.

Q : Can the DO3401 directly switch 110 VAC or 220 VAC solenoid valves?

No. The DO3401 is purely a 24 VDC module. To control AC loads, it must drive a 24 VDC interposing relay, which switches the AC mains.
