Control system and PLC

These components are the brain of any automated system.  One of the core products in ABB's product line is the ABB Advant controller series.  This series includes well-known components such as AC450 and AC110.

These systems belong to old components.  Their successor is the ABB Ability™ system 800xA, which adopts more advanced technology to enhance efficiency and functionality.  The Advant controller series has entered the phase-out stage.

Variable Speed drive (VSD

The control system and PLC act as the brain.  Meanwhile, the variable speed drive (VSD) acts as the muscle and is the power source that affects the processing speed.  A notable example of this type of product is the recently discontinued ABB ACS 600 series frequency converter.

These frequency converters are revolutionary, introducing direct torque control (DTC) to the market.  Its successor product, the ABB ACS880 series, offers direct torque control and is more energy-efficient.  The ACS600 multi-transmission (air-cooled type) will cease production on January 1, 2025.

Robot controller

The field of robotics technology is always in a stage of development.  ABB has not officially announced that its outdated systems, such as the ABB S4C and S4C+ robot controllers, have been discontinued.  However, ABB is already developing more efficient alternative products.  The IRC5 and OmniCore™ controllers are more advanced and can fully meet the requirements of modern applications.

Active period

This stage begins when the product enters the market and marks the start of ABB's life cycle.  After the product is launched on the market, all work will be focused on marketing.  In addition, spare parts, various life cycle services and improvements in product design will also be provided.  Customers can enjoy all the advantages of the product and its attached benefits, including spare parts and support.

Classic Period

In the classic stage, customers and end users continue to enjoy all the advantages of the active stage of the product.  At this stage, ABB focuses on improving its products and developing the next generation of components.  During this period, you can enjoy all of ABB's life cycle services, such as product support and spare parts.

ABB will inform the customer of the current life cycle status of the product.  Before the product enters the limited use stage, we will issue a life cycle announcement.  This announcement is based on the premise that both parties have signed a further service agreement.

Limited stage

During the limited stage, the product will no longer be developed.  However, as long as the materials are in place, spare parts are still available.  The elimination stage begins at the end of the limited stage.  This is a gradual process, not a sudden change.

At this stage, customers should start considering alternative solutions for spare parts.  They might also be able to consult third-party suppliers to learn about feasible follow-up plans.

Outdated stage

When ABB is unable to provide services at a reasonable price, the product enters a production halt stage.  This refers to the situation where ABB is unable to provide technical support for the product or the outdated technology is no longer available.

Conclusion
