The Velomitor CT Velocity Transducer is a specialized low-frequency version of the standard Velomitor Piezo-velocity Sensor. This device is specifically designed to measure casing vibration velocity in cooling tower and air-cooled heat exchanger fan assemblies, typically operating at speeds ranging from 100 to 300 rpm, but it can also function effectively for units running at or above 90 rpm. The Velomitor CT Transducer is capable of detecting vibration amplitudes at these operational frequencies, as well as the vibration frequencies generated by the fan motor and speed reducer.

A key aspect of its design is its ability to monitor the rotor vibrations that are indicative of common machine malfunctions, such as unbalance or misalignment. These faults often originate in the rotor, and for effective overall machine protection, it is essential that the system continuously transmits a significant amount of rotor vibration to the machine casing, or to the location where the transducer is mounted.

To ensure optimal performance, it is crucial to install the accelerometer transducer properly on the bearing housing or machine casing. Incorrect installation can lead to a decrease in the transducer's amplitude and frequency response, or may even produce false signals that do not accurately represent the actual vibration of the system.
