The Velomitor CT Velocity Transducer is a specialized low-frequency version of the standard Velomitor Piezo-velocity Sensor. It is specifically designed to measure casing vibration velocity in cooling tower and air-cooled heat exchanger fan assemblies, typically operating at speeds of 100 to 300 rpm, but it can also handle systems running at or above 90 rpm.
This transducer is capable of measuring vibration amplitudes at these operational frequencies and also detects the vibration frequencies generated by the fan motor and speed reducer. Monitoring these vibrations helps identify potential machine malfunctions, such as unbalance or misalignment, which typically originate from the rotor and manifest as an increase or change in rotor vibration.
For any individual casing measurement to be effective for overall machine protection, it is essential that the system consistently transmits a significant amount of rotor vibration to the machine casing or the mounting location of the transducer. This ensures that the measurement provides an accurate reflection of the rotor's condition and contributes to the protection of the overall machine system.
