Baker Hughes' Orbit 60 Compact announcement introduces 7-slot and 11-slot rack designs for installations with limited space. Its current platform page identifies early-2027 availability for the compact chassis. For plants maintaining existing 3500 installations, the immediate question is practical: which probe, cable and Proximitor configuration does each measurement point require?

01 / COMPRESSOR SHAFT VIBRATION
Start with the probe's complete configuration
For centrifugal compressors with fluid-film bearings, the 3300 XL 8 mm family is a starting point for evaluating shaft-relative vibration and position. A proximity probe observes shaft movement relative to its mounting location; a casing-mounted vibration sensor measures housing motion.
Thread, unthreaded length, case length, lead configuration and certification requirements all matter. Photograph the complete probe label and record the installed Proximitor model before requesting a replacement.
02 / STANDARD 8 mm SYSTEMS
Match the cable to the Proximitor system length
Probe length plus extension cable length must equal the selected Proximitor system length. Choose an example below to see the relationship.

330130-080-00-CN is an 8 m extension-cable example. Select a nine-metre 330180 Proximitor configuration with the required mounting and approval options.

A five-metre probe connects directly to its matching five-metre 330180 Proximitor. No extension cable is required. Check routing distance before selecting the probe length.
Length matching is one part of selection. Confirm family, mounting, connector protection and approvals separately. The five- or nine-metre length concerns the probe-side chain; field wiring from the Proximitor to the monitor is considered separately.

03 / RESTRICTED INSTALLATION SPACE
For tight compressor clearances, evaluate NSv
Small shafts, restricted counterbores and limited side clearance can require a different family. AMIKON lists the following components for evaluating an NSv measurement chain:
The length relationship is 0.5 m + 6.5 m = 7 m. The listed variants have different approval suffixes, so this example does not establish a complete approved assembly for a particular hazardous-area installation.
Can a 330180 replace a 330980?
NSv probes, cables and electronics must be selected within the supported NSv configuration. A standard 330180 is not a default substitute for a 330980 simply because the connectors appear similar. Read the official NSv requirements ↗
Nominal sensitivity: 100 mV/mil. Evaluate when the standard 8 mm range is insufficient, with the corresponding 11 mm probe, cable and configured monitor input.
A change in range requires a review of the entire transducer chain and channel scaling. Select the probe, cable and Proximitor as a supported system.
05 / INTEGRATED INSTALLATION
Bring the Proximitor closer with PROXPAC XL
AMIKON lists the 330880-28-15-044-01-02 PROXPAC XL assembly. Its design integrates a Proximitor with a dedicated probe housing, eliminating the separate extension cable between the probe and its associated Proximitor.
What should be checked before choosing PROXPAC XL?
Confirm sleeve dimensions, installation access, environmental conditions and the exact assembly options. Retain the complete ordering number in replacement enquiries. Official PROXPAC XL datasheet ↗
06 / MONITOR INPUT AND UPGRADE PLANNING
Complete the review at the rack input
AMIKON's 3500 range includes 3500/42M 140734-02. The 3500/42M family accepts proximity, velocity or acceleration signals. Identify both the monitor and its I/O module, then confirm the measurement type, sensitivity, wiring and channel settings. Official 3500/42M datasheet ↗
For an Orbit 60 migration, carry the same probe-side information into the engineering review. Check the retained transducer system against the selected input module, supported measurement, scaling and protection configuration. Compatibility must be established for the complete measurement point.
